Who Among You?
Here is an interactive ceremony that involves most all of the attendees at a remembrance service:
From Dave Savage – With my wife Beverly Molander, we provide advice and services for creating meaningful activities and ceremonies of tribute and remembrance. Our book and websites are full of ideas and materials. We look forward to speaking with and meeting anyone interested in the subjects we address. HeartfeltMemorialServices.com DaveSavage.com We live and work out of our home office in Atlanta, cell 404 323-8686 Dave@DaveSavage.com BeverlyMolander.net
This activity provides insight and shows the impact, contributions and involvement of the loved one to many of the guests. It also takes less time than many individual’s remembrances, if time is very short. It is most impactful with a large group of guests that come from a diverse range of guest connections to the person who died. The conversations at the receptions, after the service will certainly be more engaging as guests with common interests find each other and share their stories. This will be a reuniting of long ago friendships for many of them.
The ceremony leader asks people to stand for a moment when asked “Who among you?” for the following shared connections or memories. “If you or your family were involved with John or impacted by his activities in some way, please stand for a moment as I call out the many ways he made a difference.”
We also advocate that you honor a guest and their unique relationship to the loved one by having a friend or family member lead the ceremony, rather than the officiant. Ask them to briefly give their name and connection before beginning their part. (“Hi, I’m Pete Jones, a member of the garden club with Alan”)
Obviously, you will come up with ones that relate to your loved one. Here are several options. Who among you. . .
