How long ago and far away is Forever? This information will provide the scope of astronomical time and distance and some people’s theological time and distance. Big numbers (times) the following: ♦ Earth years ♦ Earth centuries ♦ The time of each revolution of our galaxy- Milky Way Galactic year. Perspective: 1 followed by 24 zeros = septillion 1 septillion meters distance is the distance light will travel in 100 million earth years. Distances to and across various places in the cosmos. Astronomers estimate that there are over 200 billion galaxies in our known universe. Each galaxy can have millions and billions of stars. Something to ponder – Which is the longer span of time, the past or the future, from this point in time, as measured in earth years or any other real or theoretical measurement? We can’t be in the middle all of the time. OH! and there are names of numbers for very small parts of a whole. billionth? micron? Pico? look it up. Our Milky Way Galaxy is approx. 100 million light years in distance across and takes approx. 225-250 million earth years for one rotation. (our galactic year) Andomeda is our nearest galaxy and is approx. 2.5 million light years away. We have discovered about 50 galaxies within our group that are within 12 million light years of our solar system, which means our galaxy group is approx. 24 million light years across. Current astronomical understanding is that all distances between things are increasing From Dave Savage dave@davesavage.com cell 404 323-8686 Contact me to add or modify this info. How far away is forever? Whatever the number above is, in the measurement of your choice, let that represent 1 and then start adding zeros next to it. Such as: The distance or time it takes light to travel between the farthest apart galaxies in our known universe times and add a billion zeros next to that number only gets you a tiny way in time or distance to forever. Galaxies are moving apart from each other, in all directions faster than the speed of light. https://www.physicsforums.com/threads/far-away-galaxies-moving-faster-than-light.601287/ In what ways do your theological beliefs and "seems reasonable to me" understandings incorporate or conflict with these numbers? |
